On June 10th, D.C. got it’s first look at the SpaceX Dragon! The arrival of the space craft and the all-night installation of a 40′ x 40′ clear structure tent closed down part of Pennsylvania Ave. as the Dragon was placed on site. The Sugarplum crew then worked through the night to erect the clear tent over and around the craft. All this took place at the city’s renowned Newseum.

SpaceX “designs, manufactures and launches rockets and spacecraft.” The company was founded in 2002 to revolutionize space technology, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets,” according to the California-based company’s website.

In 2012, Dragon delivered and returned cargo to and from the International Space Station–then safely returned to Earth—the first time ever that a private company had accomplished such a mission, which had normally been reserved for governments. The Dragon was originally designed to carry humans and it’s cockpit will fit 7; the first manned journey is expected in 2016 or 2017.
